- On September 18, 2015, law enforcement followed a fleeing suspect on a high-speed chase through the streets of Fontana and the city of San Bernardino. The suspect then turned onto Interstate-215, moving in the wrong direction at top speed. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department fired up to nine shots at the vehicle moving at speeds approaching 100 mph from a helicopter moving at a similar speed. The suspect, injured in the attack, exited the moving vehicle before collapsing and dying on the side of the freeway. The vehicle continued forward at top speed before colliding head-on with another vehicle, a Dodge Durango, moving in the right direction at a reasonable speed. The family, represented by Layfield & Barrett and the V. James DeSimone law firm filed a lawsuit against the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in San Bernardino Superior Court on April 28, 2016,.
